How do I join the union?

Applications for membership or registration on the out-of-work list changes took effect on April 1, 2024 to better serve our contractors and membership, and to provide the highest qualified laborers in the industry. Local 737 will be holding Orientations and accepting applications in-person promptly at 8am on Wednesday mornings. The doors will be open by 7:45am.


What if I don't have 4,000 hours experience as a laborer?

How many hours do I need to be eligible for benefits?

200 hours when you start then 130 hours per month to maintain coverage.


I have been working for 2 months and have not received benefit card info yet?

Have you moved recently? If so, you need to call the William C. Earhart Trust and update your address. Contractors report on a monthly basis on the 20th and there may be some lag time. What night are the Union Meetings?

Union meetings are on the third Thursday of every month at 6:00 pm at the Local 737 Meeting Hall;

17230 NE Sacreamento St., Portland, OR 97230 

The rooms will be open, and you can sign-in online, starting at 5:30pm. The meeting will start at 6pm. You may join via RingCentral (https://meetings.ringcentral.com/join) or you can choose to call-in by dialing 623-404-9000. Use meeting ID 148 508 9028. Both in-person and online meetings will be closed for entry at 6pm when the meeting starts.

Satellite locations are typically Hermiston, Springfield, and Central Point. Check the "News" tab for the most recent location information on the upcoming meeting.


What holidays do I have off?

New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the following day, and Christmas Day. If the holiday falls on a Saturday, then the previous Friday is considered the holiday. If the holiday falls on a Sunday, then the following Monday is considered the holiday.

Scholarships Available to Members?

A scholarship program for certain members of the Laborers' International Union has been established as a living memorial to the late W. Vernie Reed, General Secretary-Treasurer of the International Union.

Through the generosity of Brother Reed's friends and associates, a self perpetuating fund will provide a program of yearly scholarships to assist eligible worthy students in furthering their four (4) year undergraduate education. The first award was made in the Spring of 1981. Scholarships are usually awarded before July.

Union Plus

Helping union members and their children attend college. For the past 22 years, Union Plus has distributed over 3.7 million scholarship dollars to working families. The scholarship application is available June to January each year.
